THAT’S ALL FOLKS!!

Alaska is a land of spectacular scenery and contrasting vistas and we have had the fortune to see some of them. Excellent wildlife in our stay in Valdez (bears, salmon spawning, sea otters, seals…) and some of the best glaciers among de 10,000 ones that Alaska has.

However, we’ve also experienced that summer in Alaska is more a state of mind that a season. We had only four sunny days!.We’ve been told that June is spring, July is summer and August is fall, and I think so. In addition, August is always quite  rainy.

From Valdez we headed north through Richardson Hwy and up to Worthington Glacier. It was amazing.

After the glacier the road becomes monotonous for  100 miles but when you enter the road to Chitina and you see the snow-capped volcanic Wrangrells you are stunned. So we were when we saw Copper River, famous for its excellent salmon and different types of fishing. In our way north , our next stop was Summit Lake, Isabel Pass, Gulskana Glacier and Fielding Lake, each one even more beautiful. Camping by the lake and in front of the glacier was so relaxing.

Next, Delani Hwy, A 135-mile unpaved road and bumpy road which was the former way to get to the area where Mt. Mckinley stands. Here we could appreciate how crazy are Alaskans about hunting. As it was mid-August, hunting was permitted yet and many groups of men on their ATVs chasing caribous and then processing them in the campground was really shocking for us.

Denali Nation al Park is gorgeous. It’s funny because while we were in the bus towards Eielson Centre (you can only travel within the park on the park buses) all of us were thinking about how some of its peaks and valleys reminded us Iceland and its colours.

After Denali, Palmer, Hatcher Pass, where ve visited an old gold mine, and Anchorage.

Yesterday afternoon we arrived at Frankfurt from Seattle. We’ve slept in Frankfurt, visited the city centre, and now we are waiting our plane to our final destination: home.

Which are our memories from Alaska?

A NIMALS  (bears, moose, caribous, whales, sea otters, beavers, dall sheep.

L IGHT RAIN (at least!)

A NGLERS ( everywhere)

S  ALMON (fresh, canned, dried….)

K NIVES    (to process salmon, of course)

A WESOME!!!

and most of all, the whole family travelling together again!!!!

We have had the pleasure to share our trip with all al you.
